A Santa Barbara Elopement

featuring Tegan & Matt

"I may never find words beautiful enough to describe all that you mean to me, but I will spend the rest of my life searching for them."
—John Mark Green

My favorite couples to work with are the ones who choose to do things their way, creating a day that feels entirely like them. For Matt & Tegan, that meant an intimate, meaningful elopement shared with their best friend, where every moment felt intentional.

The Morning at Simpson House Inn

We started the day at the Simpson House Inn, a peaceful retreat that perfectly matched their vibe. The morning light filtered through the garden as we documented the details that made their day uniquely theirs. Their room was charming, warm, & full of personality—an ideal space to start the day.

One of my favorite parts? They got ready together. It wasn’t rushed & it didn’t feel like a production—it was just the two of them sharing a quiet, easy start to their day.

The First Look

When Tegan was ready, she stepped outside for their first look. Matt’s reaction was pure joy, & it was such a sweet moment to capture.

They shared a glass of champagne, toasted to the day ahead, & spent a little time chatting with their best friend & officiant before heading out for the ceremony.

The Ceremony at the
Santa Barbara Courthouse

The Santa Barbara Courthouse is stunning, but what made it even more special that day was the kindness of the staff. One security officer went out of her way to let us in early, giving Matt and Tegan the chance to explore the space without a crowd.

Their ceremony was short & sweet—just the way they wanted it. Afterward, we wandered the courthouse for their newlywed portraits.

Back to the Inn

After the ceremony, we returned to the Simpson House Inn, where Matt & Tegan took some time for themselves. They changed outfits & shared a moment to just breathe & enjoy the fact that they were married. (And LOOK—these two cleaned up beautifully!)

It was a good reminder that your wedding day doesn’t have to feel rushed. It can be a collection of moments you truly live in.

The Beach

Next, it was time for the beach. Matt & Tegan walked along the shoreline, just talking, before breaking into laughter as Matt picked her up & ran through the sand. Their best friend was right there with them, giving off major bodyguard vibes.

These frames felt alive—full of movement, love, & a little sand.

Celebrating on the Pier

To end the day, we headed to the pier for a late lunch & celebratory drinks. It was relaxed, joyful, & a perfect way to finish out a day that felt entirely like them.

Their Reaction

There’s nothing better than hearing how much a couple loves their photos. Seeing their joy & knowing the photos were exactly what they had envisioned was the perfect reminder of why I love what I do.
